Ducati Monster SP Revealed - Comes With Plenty Of Mechanical Upgrades
Italian superbike manufacturer Ducati Motor Company has taken the wraps off the new Ducati Monster SP motorcycle. This new motorcycle is a more track-focused iteration of the Ducati Monster.
As part of the 'SP' (Sport Production) treatment, the Ducati Moster SP gets numerous mechanical and cosmetic upgrades over the standard iteration of the middleweight sport naked motorcycle.
For starters, the new Ducati Monster SP middleweight sport naked motorcycle is 2kg lighter than the standard Ducati Motorcycle at just 186kg. To achieve this, Ducati did not simply remove bits from the standard motorcycle, but a series of mechanical changes have been made to the motorcycle and a few parts have also been replaced with more sophisticated units.
Some of the most note-worthy upgrades on the new Ducati Monster SP middleweight sport naked motorcycle are the inclusion of a lighter yet more advanced lithium-ion battery pack, Brembo Stylema calipers, fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension at both ends, a new steering damper, and a lighter homologated Termignoni slip-on exhaust.
All these changes make the Ducati Monster SP motorcycle a lot more track-worthy than the standard variant. Apart from these changes, the new Ducati Monster SP motorcycle also gets very grippy Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tyres.
While all these changes compliment the character of the Ducati Monster SP motorcycle, Ducati wanted to ensure that the Monster SP motorcycle is properly track-worthy. This led to Ducati changing the geometry of the Monster SP from the standard motorcycle.
As a result, the new Ducati Monster SP has a shorter wheelbase and a 20mm higher seat at 840mm. However, Ducati customers can also make changes to the seat height at the time of order and can opt for a seat that is as low as 810mm or can go a bit taller at 850mm.
The shorter wheelbase of the Ducati Monster SP is the courtesy of a sharper rake angle and reduced trail. The change in geometry has also resulted in increased cornering clearance for more aggressive cornering.
Apart from these changes, the Ducati Monster SP also gets different ride modes. While the standard Ducati Monster motorcycle gets Sport, Touring, and Urban modes, the Ducati Monster SP motorcycle gets Sport, Road, and Wet ride modes.
However, Ducati has not fettled with the 937cc, liquid-cooled- V-Twin engine. This engine continues to produce a healthy 111bhp of peak power at 9,250rpm and 93Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Also, the Ducati Monster SP gets a 6-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quick-shifter.
To help the Ducati Monster SP stand out from the crowd, Ducati has made full use of the paint scheme from its MotoGP superbikes. Moreover, the Ducati Monster SP also sports a red seat, splashes of red accents and gets a bikini fairing as standard.
Thoughts About The Ducati Monster SP
Since Ducati is yet to reveal the price of the Monster SP motorcycle, we expect the model to be priced at least a few lakhs above the standard Monster variant. However, there is no official confirmation regarding the launch of the motorcycle in India.
