Cheaper Ola Electric Scooter Coming This Diwali - Likely To Be Priced Around Rs 80,000

In a bid to further penetrate into the electric two-wheeler market and the startup EV maker according to various sources is working on a more affordable variant of the Ola S1 electric scooter.

In addition to that, there are numerous reports claiming that the upcoming cheaper iteration of the Ola S1 electric scooter will be launched in the country with a price tag close to the Rs 80,000 mark. Fueling this report is the Tweet from Mr Bhavish Aggarwal, where he tweeted, "Our Diwali event will be on 22nd Oct. One of the biggest announcements ever from Ola. See you soon!"

However, the aggressive price tag on the said cheaper version of the Ola S1 electric scooter means that Ola Electric is likely to cut many features that are available on the standard Ola S1 electric scooter as part of cost-cutting.

We suspect the deletion of the large full-colour touchscreen instrument cluster, as this will help reduce the price of the electric scooter by a significant margin. Moreover, this full-colour touchscreen display is likely to be replaced by a simpler LCD screen that will display essentials such as speed, odometer, trip meter, battery charge, time, and a few more essential readings.

In addition to that, many features that are available on the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro electric scooters are most likely to be locked in this upcoming cheaper variant of the Ola S1 electric scooter. We also suspect a smaller battery pack to replace the larger 3kWh battery pack, resulting in reduced range.

Earlier, Ola Electric launched the Move OS2. This update not only added more features to both Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro electric scooters, but it also improved the battery management and energy deployment of both electric scooters, resulting in a much-improved range and performance.

It is also worth mentioning that, the Move OS2 update was made available to all Ola electric scooter users as an OTA (Over The Air) update. In terms of numbers, the update to Move OS2 resulted in an improved ARAI-certified range of 131km per full charge and a higher top speed of around 95km/h for the Ola S1 electric scooter. In comparison, Ola Electric last year claimed that the Ola S1 electric scooter can only do 121km on a full charge and the top speed was rated at just 90km/h.

It is also said that Ola Electric will launch the improved Move OS3 update during this Diwali. There is a high chance that Ola Electric could launch this update on October 22. Apart from that, this update is likely to bring even better battery optimisation and some additional features as well.

Thoughts About The Cheaper Ola S1 Electric Scooter

We expect the cheaper iteration of the Ola S1 electric scooter to quickly gain traction in the Indian electric scooter segment as the company has already proved its product and the lower price tag will be welcomed by many two-wheeler users looking to upgrade to an electric scooter for local commute.

Also, the cheaper version of the Ola S1 electric scooter is more likely to be offered with very limited colour options as well.
