Ather May Reveal New Electric Scooter In January – Likely To Be More Affordable

Ather Energy Has witnessed consistent growth in the Indian electric scooter segment. In fact, the company recorded more than 252 per cent YoY sales growth in November 2022.

That being said, its main rival Ola Electric has sold more than 1.5 lakh electric scooters this year, while Ather sales figures stand around the 55k mark. One of the reasons for the lower sales for Ather could be due to its premium pricing.

Now, Ather Energy is holding its community day on January 7 and we expect the electric scooter manufacturer to reveal its new product. Apart from that, we expect this newer electric scooter to be priced more aggressively to more directly compete with the Ola electric scooter in terms of pricing.

As such, we expect Ather's upcoming new electric scooter to attract more customers and give a tougher fight to its main competitors. It is also rumoured that Ather's new electric scooter could be priced around Rs 1 lakh mark and it could sport a more comfort-oriented set-up with a maxi-scooter-like design.

Speaking about Ather Energy, the startup EV maker launched the Ather 450X Gen 3 electric scooter this year and this latest iteration of the Ather Energy electric scooter packs a larger 3.66kWh battery pack instead of the 2.9kWh battery pack carried by the previous model.

Diving into details, the Ather 450X Gen 3 electric scooter sports 5 ride modes - Eco Mode, Smart Eco Mode, Ride Mode, Sport Mode and Warp Mode. Apart from that, the new larger battery pack has enabled the Ather 450X Gen 3 electric scooter to travel up to 146km on a full charge.

It is also worth mentioning that the new battery pack in the 450X Gen 3 is a Nickel Cobalt-based Lithium-Ion unit which weighs at 19kg. On top of that, the electric scooter uses a 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor with 6.4kW of peak power.

Thoughts About The Ather Electric Scooters

Ather Energy is slowly yet steadily increasing its market share in the EV segment. Apart from that, we expect sales figures to increase significantly for the EV maker if the company launches a more affordable variant without compromising much on the range and features it is currently offering on the 450X Gen 3 electric scooter.
