The 150cc segment has always been considered as an entry-level performance motorcycle segment in India.
However, in recent times, as a result of manufacturers trying to slot commuter motorcycles in the 150cc segment and on the hunt for more performance, manufacturers have started to use larger 160cc engines in their sportier models.
Now, TVS Motor has updated its Apache RTR 160 4V, and we are going to see how it fares against its nearest rivals, the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 and Hero Xtreme 160R.
In this comparison, we shall look at four parameters; Design, Features &Convenience, Powertrain, and Price.
Design is a subjective matter but for the sake of this comparison, we must proceed further. Starting with the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, it is the newest bike here and it clearly looks the freshest among this lot.
The new update has clearly done its part by making the TVS Apache RTR 4V look contemporary with its new headlamp assembly, DRLs, and colour options.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 on the other hand uses the same basic design as the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 that was launched way back in 2012 but somehow Bajaj has managed to make it just as fresh as other bikes in this group.
However, it is the Hero Xtreme 160R that looks the sharpest here with its large single-piece side panel, sharply raked tail unit, and stylish taillamp.
2. Features & Convenience
It is 2021, just stylish design and performance numbers don't cut the mustard anymore. Being the most recently updated model in this comparison, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gets the most equipment.
The new update brings features such as SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity, gearshift indicator, and Ride Modes (Urban, Sport, and Rain).
Moreover, TVS Apache RTR 1604V comes with features such as LED headlamps, digital instrument console, single-channel ABS, rear disc brakes, GTT (Glide Through Traffic) and many more.
Though the Bajaj NS160 is having the oldest hardware, Bajaj has given all the necessary features and equipment such as a part digital instrument display, rear disc brake, single-channel ABS and a few more goodies. However, it is also the only motorcycle in this comparison not to offer LED headlights.
Finally, the Hero Xtreme 160R comes decently equipped and holds the middle ground in this comparison, and it is the only bike in this comparison to offer LED turn indicators.
The Hero Xtreme 160R may look the sportiest but it is the least powerful bike in this comparison. The 163cc 2 valve SOHC engine produces 15 bhp and 14 Nm of torque. It is also the lightest in this group at 138.5 kgs.
The Pulsar is the next most powerful bike in this comparison. It produces 17 bhp and 14.6 Nm of torque from its 4-Stroke SOHC 4 valve oil-cooled Twin Spark BS6 DTS-i FI engine. However, it is also the heaviest at 151 kgs.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is the most powerful motorcycle in this comparison and the 159cc 4-valve oil-cooled engine produces 17.4 bhp and 14.73 Nm of torque and weighs around 145 kgs.
In India, pricing plays a crucial role in the buying decision of many people, irrespective of the product.
At Rs 1,11,565 (ex-showroom, Delhi) the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V comes with the lowest entry price.
While the Hero Xtreme 160R starts from Rs 1,11,610 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base model with self-start, disc brake and alloy wheel.
The Pulsar NS160 is the priciest of the lot and starts from Rs 1,16,205 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Thoughts About TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Bajaj Pulsar NS160 And Hero Xtreme 160R
On paper, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V wins this comparison test. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is not only the most powerful in this comparison but it is the most feature-packed and comes with the lowest price tag.
However, the other motorcycles are not too far off in this comparison.
