Ola Electric Organises Special Delivery Event For S1 & S1 Pro Customers

The special delivery event that took place at the Ola Campus in the city of Bangalore saw the electric startup deliver its first set of vehicles directly into the hands of customers. The customers pulled off the covers of their new S1 and S1 Pro under much fanfare before riding off with their new electric scooters under the keen eye of Ola Electric's CEO Bahvish Aggarwal.

The Ola Electric boss later took to Twitter to share the news and the journey of the company's scooters from the purchase of land for the 'Futurefactory' in January 2021 to the current delivery of scooters 11 months later in December. Aggarwal in a series of tweets admitted that there had been a delay of a month. He went on to tweet, "We're still at the start of our journey and will slip occasionally on timelines, and there will be improvements we will need to make in our products. But we will keep pushing in our efforts to make world class products, innovate on technology and make India a world leader in EVs!"

The Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro are two of the most highly anticipated electric scooters to hit the Indian market. Ola had launched the two electric scooters earlier this year which saw the company receive an unprecedented response with booking crossing the 1 lakh mark very quickly. The company recently conducted what it calls the largest-ever direct-to-consumer experience initiative in the history of automotive retail when it conducted customer test rides of the S1 and S1 Pro across the country.

The Ola S1 and S1 Pro are the initial offerings from Ola Electric with the company planning to launch a more affordable electric scooter as well as an electric motorcycle in the near future. The Ola S1 and S1 Pro are priced at Rs 1 lakh and 1.3 lakh (both ex-showroom) respectively.

Both the Ola S1 and S1 Pro are powered by an interior permanent magnet type (IPM) mid-drive motor that under normal conditions delivers a power output of 7.37bhp. This figure increases to a peak output of 11.39bhp under heavy load. The peak torque output of both the S1 and S1 Pro is rated at 58Nm.

The Ola S1's electric motor draws power from a 2.98kWh battery pack. Ola claims that the S1 has a range of 121 kilometres on a single charge. The Ola S1 Pro has a larger 3.97kWh battery pack which gives the electric scooter a claimed range of 181 kilometres on a single charge.

Speaking of charging, the larger battery pack on the S1 Pro means that the electric scooter takes six and a half hours to fully charge when connected to a regular wall socket. The regular S1 takes four hours and forty-eight minutes to fully charge up its power source. However, when connected to Ola's Hypercharger, both scoters can recuperate 75 kilometres of range in just 18 minutes.

Thoughts On Ola Finally Delivering the S1 & S1 Pro To Customers

Ola Electric has finally started delivering the S1 and S1 Pro scooters to its customers and we should hopefully see more of these electric two-wheelers hitting our roads soon. While the delays have induced some backlash from customers, the start of deliveries should hopefully put a smile on their faces.
