KTM has switched back to Metzeler tyres for its 390 range of motorcycles in India. The much-loved Metzeler tyres are now back on the KTM 390 Adventure, 390 Duke, and RC 390. Despite replacing the MRF tyres with the more expensive Metzelers, KTM hasn't increased prices of the motorcycles.
With the launch of the first-gen KTM 390 Duke back in 2013, Indian motorcyclists were introduced to the brilliance of the Metzeler tyres. Almost all of the popular motorcycles in India back then rode on tyres from MRF or from Ceat. Then came along the Metzeler Sportec M5 tyres with its exceptional levels of grip on wet and dry surfaces.
It was towards the end of 2020 that the Indian government clamped down on excessive imports of tyres with new laws. As a result of this, the tyre supply for the KTM 390 range of motorcycles dwindled. KTM had no other option than to switch to a different tyre supplier.
The 390 Duke and RC 390 received the MRF Revz C1 tyres that were until then sold only on the 125, 200 and 250 Duke and RC. The 390 Adventure on the other hand received the MRF Mogrip Meteor tyres that were until then used on the 250 Adventure.
Now, the tyre import regulations seem to have been sorted out and KTM has switched to the Metzeler tyres again. When KTM switched from Metzeler to MRF last year, prices of the motorcycles weren't reduced. Now, when the brand has switched back to Metzeler tyres, prices haven't been hiked either.
However, it is worth noting that the brand had announced multiple price hikes. As a brand, KTM is doing pretty well in the Indian market as the brand continues to sell its motorcycles in good numbers.
In related news, KTM will soon be launching the next-gen RC 390 in the Indian market. Spy pictures of the upcoming motorcycle revealed that the 17-inch alloy wheels were shod with Continental tyres. However, we expect the motorcycles to feature Metzelers in the Indian market.
Thoughts On KTM 390 Range Going Back To Using Metzeler Tyres
Metzeler makes some of the best motorcycle tyres in the world and the KTM 390 Range gave us a good glimpse of it. Now, the KTM bikes are back on the Metzeler tyres and therefore are more value for money.
