Hero Electric Crosses 50,000 EV Sales Figure For FY 2021/22 In Just 7 Months
Hero Electric, the nation's largest two-wheeled electric vehicle manufacturer has stated that it has sold over 50,000 units of its e-scooters in the first 7 months of the financial year 2021-22. The company looks on track to double its sales this fiscal.
The company had recently announced plans that it would be ramping up production at its Ludhiana facility to 5 lakh units by March 2022 to cater to the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the country. Currently, around 16,500 customers are still awaiting delivery of their Hero e-scooters due to the heavy demand for the vehicles.
The company hopes to sell 1 million electric vehicles in the next 5 years. To achieve this the company plans to expand its product portfolio and sales touchpoints as well as the charging infrastructure available.
Speaking about his company hitting the 50,000 sales mark in just 7 months, Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric, said, "While we are happily celebrating the delivery of 50,000 bikes to the customers, we owe an apology to another 16500 customers who are on the waitlist for deliveries and may have to wait for a few more weeks. We are ramping up our capacities quickly to offer to customers their Hero choice of bikes as they walk into our showrooms. This is the moment to acknowledge the positive steps of the government that catalyzed this high growth EV ecosystem, and thank our customers, our business partners and above all our solid Hero team that has worked so hard to reach this milestone. We'll soon have half a million satisfied users, many of them happily enjoying the comfort and convenience of Hero e-bikes for more than 5 years; saving a fortune for themselves while contributing to a carbonless future."
Reaching the 50,000 sales mark has been helped along by the huge drop in prices after FAME II subsidies came into place with prices for some e-scooters in the Hero Electric lineup dropping by over Rs. 15,000. The current sales figures are the best ever for Hero Electric since 2007, with its faster city speed models — Optima and NYX — leading the charge.
Hero Electric currently sells 5 electric scooters in India - Nyx, Photon, Optima, Flash and Atria. The Nyx and Photon are only offered in the faster City Speed(HX) guise and offer a top speed of 42km/h. The Flash and Atria are only offered in the slower Comfort speed(LX) with a top speed limited to just 25km/h. The Optima is offered in both HX and LX guises.
The Optima sports a 550W BLDC electric motor paired to a 51.2V/30Ah Lithium-ion battery pack. In LX guise the range is limited to just 85 kilometres on a single charge of the single battery pack.
The HX variant of the Hero Electric Optima is offered in both single and dual battery guises. This gives the Optima HX e-scooter a range that varies between 82 kilometres (single battery) and 122 kilometres (dual battery) on a single charge.
