Hero Electric & Charzer To Setup 1 Lakh EV Chargers In Next 3 Years

Hero Electric has tied up with Bangalore-based EV charging infrastructure company Charzer to set up 1 lakh chargers over the next three years.

Hero Electric, the nation's largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer has tied up with Bangalore-based EV charging infrastructure startup Charzer to set up 1 lakh EV chargers over the next three years. As per the agreement between the two companies, Charzer will first set up 10,000 EV chargers over the first year in the top 30 cities across the country.

Speaking on his company's new collaboration with Charzer, Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill said, "At Hero, we believe that a robust and well-equipped infrastructure network is key to the development of EVs in India. This association will aid the EV growth and provide a seamless charging experience to customers by integrating charging slot booking and payment with chargers deployed by Charzer. Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen the thrust towards EVs and promote a cleaner and greener mobility solution."

Hero Electric will install 'Kirana Charzers' at its showrooms across the country. The company currently has showrooms in over 20 cities across the country and all these dealerships will feature the Kirana Charzers to help customers keep their electric scooters charged up. The company also plans to set up chargers at local stores and common areas to ease EV charging for consumers.

Charzer's Kirana Charzers are quite small and compact and are IoT enabled which along with the Charzer app will allow Hero Electric's customers to keep track of the nearest available charging point in the future. The app also allows customers to easily book a charging slot and make payments once topped up.

Charzer also offers other charging solutions for both apartments and businesses. Charzer's AC chargers range from the 3.3kW 'Charzer Lite' to the 22kW 'Charzer Terra'. The company claims that the 'Charzer Lite' is India's smallest charging solution for electric vehicles and its most affordable one as well at just Rs 3,200. The company also offers two DC fast charging solutions which support 24kW and 50kW charging speeds and come equipped with a CCS 2 connector.

Hero Electric is the nation's leading electric two-wheeler vehicle manufacturer in terms of numbers and has been in the game for over a decade now. The company recently announced that it would be ramping up the production levels at its facility in Ludhiana, Punjab. The two-wheeler manufacturer intends to increase production to 5 lakh units every year by March 2022 as it looks to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the country. The company plans to ramp up production even further to 10 lakh units per year in the future.

The company also recently stated that it had hit the 50,000 unit sales milestone for the financial year 2021-22 in just 7 months and that it expects to double its sales in this fiscal year compared to the previous one. Hero Electric's current range consists of 5 electric scooters and an electric bicycle and the company plans to introduce new models in the near future.

Thoughts On Hero Electric's Partnership With Charzer

The partnership between Hero Electric and Charzer shows just how quickly EV adoption is ramping up in the country and the need to provide accessible chargers to encourage this growth. The collaboration between the two companies will see EV chargers coming up at local stores and other easily accessible areas which should hopefully make electric vehicle charging a more common sight in India in the next 3 years.
