New Triumph Tiger 850 Sport Unveiled: India Launch Slated For Early-2021
Triumph Motorcycles have unveiled the Tiger 850 Sport globally. The new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will be the brand's new entry-level model in the range. The motorcycle is also said to be more of a road-oriented adventure-tourer, which will replace the base-level trim of the recently introduced Tiger 900.

In terms of design, the new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is similar to its larger sibling. However, to help differentiate between the two, the new Tiger 850 comes with new body graphics, two new dual-tone paint schemes: Graphite/Diablo Red and Graphite/Caspian Blue.

However, body panels such as the front beak, adjustable windshield, fuel tank, radiator shroud and the LED lights have been carried over from the Tiger 900. The new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport will also be offered with a host of accessories to help personalise the Tiger 850.

The new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport continues to be powered by the same 888cc liquid-cooled in-line three-cylinder engine. It produces 85bhp at 8500rpm and 82Nm of torque at 6500rpm; 10bhp and 5Nm less than on the Tiger 900. The engine continues to be mated to a six-speed gearbox, with slip and assist clutch.

Triumph states that the engine on the Tiger 850 Sport has been slightly detuned and offers a more linear power delivery, making it a much easier riding experience. The triumph Tiger 850 Sport will also come with two riding modes: Rain and Road, while a quick-shifter will be offered as an additional accessory.

The motorcycle uses 43mm upside down forks at the front and a mono-shock setup at the rear, both from Marzocchi. The front suspension comes with 180mm of travel, while the rear offers 170mm with manual preload adjustment. Braking on the motorcycle is via double 320mm discs at the front and a single 255mm disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS.

The new Triumph Tiger 850 sits on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloys, with 100/90 and 150/70 tyre profiles. The new Tiger 850 Sport is also said to be 2kg lighter than the Tiger 900 GT, while also having a slightly lower seat height at 810mm. Triumph also claims a mileage figure of 19.23km/l, which with a 20-litre fuel tank, makes light work of long distance travel.

Thoughts On The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport
The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is said to go on sale in the Indian market sometime early next year. The new Tiger 850 Sport will be priced more affordably than the Tiger 900, with a price expectation of below the Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom range.
