Royal Enfield Himalayan With Turbocharger Unveiled: Called The ‘MJR Roach’

Royal Enfield has unveiled a custom-made Himlayan that is fitted with a turbocharger. Called the MJR Roach is built by the brand's custom bike development arm at their Tech Centre in the UK.

The modifications made to the custom motorcycle are not only cosmetic but there are a host of mechanical changes as well. The customs division has taken it up a notch by fitting the engine with a turbocharger.

The Himalayan's 411cc SOHC single-cylinder engine now features a Garrett GT 125 turbo. However, this is only the start of performance modification that has been done to the motorcycle. The MJR Roach also includes a Li-ion battery for lower weight, a K&N aftermarket air filter, a new fuel pump, and a single-sided extended swingarm.

The increased wheelbase now aids for better stability as the motorcycle now produces a whopping 50bhp, almost double to what the stock engine (24.3bhp) churns out. The power figure on the modified Himalayan is also higher than the brand's twin-cylinder (650cc) unit as well.

Moving to the design modification, the motorcycle features a bare-bone look that according to Royal Enfield is "a finessed-out Frankenstein monster built to survive the apocalypse". The motorcycle looks to be straight out of the Mad Max movie with a custom-made headlamp cluster, featuring four LED headlamps all placed in a metal enclosure.

Although the instrument cluster from the Himalayan has been retained, it now features a boost gauge for the turbocharged engine. Other highlights include gold-finished USD forks at the front and a mono-shock suspension setup at the rear.

By far the design highlight of the motorcycle will go to the custom made twin exhaust that splits the header pipe. The exhausts are up-swept and placed next to the right side cover of the motorcycle. As heard from the video, we can expect the motorcycle to rumble some windows as it goes past.

It continues to feature the same fuel tank and has not been turned into a single-seater, not that anyone would dare sit as a pillion on the motorcycle. The MJR Roach features disc brakes at both ends, although we doubt if it is still supported by ABS. The motorcycle now features 17-inch alloy wheels shod with bigger tyres with 180/55 profile. While the front seems to retain the original setup from the standard motorcycle.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan has proved to be an extremely versatile motorcycle, especially in bike modifications. The motorcycle has been turned into a scrambler, a cafe racer, a flat track racer and now a bike suited for apocalyptic times. However, the MJR Roach take the modification up a notch by using a turbocharger to power the engine.
