BMW Motorrad has globally unveiled the 2021 S 1000 R. The new (2021) BMW S 1000 R is the naked-roadster sibling of the fully-faired S 1000 RR, which was updated last year. The new 2021 S 1000 R carries forward BMW's latest design language, which now gives the naked roadster a refreshed styling compared to its predecessor.
One of the main design changes made on the 2021 BMW S 1000 R is the new single-piece LED headlamp with the horizontal LED DRL at its centre. Along with this, the new BMW S 1000 R comes with a tweaked fuel tank design, quarter fairing, exhaust and the tail section as well.
Along with the changes to its design, BMW has also updated the chassis on the new S 1000 R with Flex Frame. This has allowed BMW to not only reduce the overall weight of the motorcycle, but also reduce the width at its centre, providing better ergonomics and control.
Talking about the weight, the 2021 BMW S 1000 R is said to have lost 6.5kg and now tips the scale at 199 kilograms. Customers can further opt for the ‘M Package', which further reduces the weight by an additional 4.8kg.
While the weight has been reduced, the motorcycle continues to be powered by the same engine, which produces identical power and torque figures. However, the engine has now been updated to comply with the latest Euro-5 emission norms.
To reiterate, the 2021 BMW S 1000 R comes powered by a 999cc in-line four-cylinder engine. It produces 162bhp and 114Nm of peak torque and is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper-clutch as standard. BMW Motorrad has stated that they have reworked the 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios.
The 2021 BMW S 1000 R also comes with a new 6.5-inch TFT display for the instrument cluster. It also features a host of electronic rider aids. These include three riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic & Dynamic Pro.
Other electronic aids on the roadster include cornering ABS, dynamic traction control, engine drag torque control, pit-lane limiter, launch control, hill-start control and an adjustable wheelie control; among others.
Thoughts On The 2021 BMW S 1000 R Global Unveil
The 2021 BMW S 1000 R comes with a host of updates. While there is no official word yet as to when the new roadster will come to India, we expect it to be some time in mid-2021. Once launched in India, the 2021 BMW S 1000 R will rival the likes of Kawasaki Z1000 and the Triumph Speed Triple.
