Honda Motorcycles has recently introduced the latest-generation Activa scooter in the Indian market. The new Honda Activa 6G is offered with a host of updates over its predecessor and is offered with a starting price Rs 8,000 more than the previous model; at Rs 63,912, ex-showroom (Delhi).
So, does the updated Honda Activa 6G have what it takes to carry forward the reputation set by its predecessors, spanning almost two decades? Here is our Honda Activa 6G review (first look) which takes a closer look to find out. Also, here are some of the top things to know about the new Honda Activa 6G.
Design & Styling
The new Honda Activa 6G hasn't changed too much from its previous generation 5G model. There are, however, slight updates made to make the scooter look more modern. This includes subtle changes to its design, along with a long list of added features.
Starting from the front, the headlamps on the Activa 6G hasn't changed too much from the previous model. It continues to be offered with LED headlamps, with DRLs. However, the unit has been tweaked slightly on the Activa 6G. Flanking either side of the headlamp unit are the turn signal indicators, similar to that on the previous generation model.
The front apron on the new Honda Activa 6G has also been slightly tweaked. The new 6G scooter now comes with chrome elements on the front apron, which has also been narrowed down, looking much sleeker than before.
The side and rear profiles on the Honda Activa 6G are pretty much identical. The new Activa 6G continues to come with clean body lines, large taillights and a pillion grab handle at the rear finished in silver accents. The side panel remains clean with just the ‘Activa 6G' logo and ‘HET' stickers.
However, the main change at the rear of the Activa 6G is the presence of the external fuel filler cap. This is positioned just above the taillights, allowing for ease of filling fuel, compared to that on the Activa 5G, where it was placed below the seats.
The Honda Activa 6G comes with a host of new added features and technology. This allows the new iteration of the scooter to look and feel more modern than before. The new Honda Activa 6G offers a slightly tweaked instrument cluster.
The scooter now also features multi-function switches near the key slot, along with others near the handlebar; one being the new engine kill switch and the other being pass light switch.
The Honda Activa 6G now comes with the brand's PGM-Fi technology, along with its eSP system; both of which offer improved mileage and fuel efficiency figures, along with a more refined ride. The Activa 6G also carries forward Honda's ACG technology as well from its larger sibling, the Activa 125 BS-VI.
Other new features on the new Honda Activa 6G include telescopic front suspension and a dual shock absorber setup at the rear. The new scooter comes with larger 12-inch wheels at the front and standard 10-inch wheels at the rear with 90/90 and 90/100 tyres profiles, respectively.
Braking on the Honda Activa 6G is through a set of 130mm drum brakes at either end, supported by CBS (Combi-Braking System) as standard.
Engine & Performance
The new Honda Activa 6G comes with an updated version of the same 109cc engine, which is now compliant with the latest BS6 emissions. The updated 109.51cc single-cylinder engine produces 7.7bhp and 8Nm of peak torque, paired with a CVT automatic gearbox.
The Honda Activa is know to offer a comfortable ride, however, with the addition of the fuel-injection system and the eSP and ACG technology, we expect the Activa 6G to offer enhanced riding performance and a more refined engine.
Thoughts On The New Honda Activa 6G
The design updates on the newly-launched Honda Activa 6g might not seem to be changed drastically. However, there have been some significant improvements made to the mechanicals of the new scooter, which should help improve its performance and in turn its demand in the Indian market.
While this is just a first look of the new Honda Activa 6G, stay-tuned as we will bring you a more detailed review of the scooter, once we get our hands on it in the coming months. However, the changes made on the Activa 6G does look promising.
