Yamaha MT-15 Bookings Commence Unofficially — Dealership-Level Bookings At Rs 10,000

Yamaha dealers have started accepting unofficial bookings for the upcoming MT-15 motorcycle in the Indian market. Booking amount for the new Yamaha MT-15 varies between Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the dealers and is fully refundable.

The Indian-spec MT-15 is different from the international-spec version. The MT-15 carries forward a similar looking front end, with LED headlamps. However, that's where the similarities end. The Indian-spec uses different parts in order to save cost, allowing to price the motorcycle competitively in the market. One of such change is that the Indian-spec MT-15 comes with standard telescopic front forks instead of the upside down forks, seen on the international-spec.

Yamaha MT-15 Bookings In India: Unofficial Bookings Commence In Select Dealerships

The India-bound Yamaha MT-15 is basically the naked version of the R15 V3.0 currently on sale in the market. The MT-15 carries forward the same digital instrument cluster seen on the R15, without the Bluetooth connectivity. However, a Bluetooth connected instrument display will be available at a later stage.

The engine as well will be borrowed from R15. this includes a 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It produces 19bhp at 10,000rpm and 14Nm of torque at 8,500rpm and is mated to a six-speed transmission with slipper-clutch as standard.

The Yamaha MT-15 rides on 17-inch tyres with 100/80 and 140/70 profiles at the front and rear, respectively. Braking on the MT-15 is handled by 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The Yamaha MT-15 comes with rear-set footpegs, longer seats and a wider handlebar, accentuating the overall riding position.

Yamaha recently updated their entire lineup of motorcycle offerings in the Indian market. The company updated the motorcycles with ABS and other safety features, ahead of the upcoming norms of 2020.

Thoughts On The India-Bound Yamaha MT-15

The Yamaha MT-15 is expected to be introduced in the market soon. The motorcycle will be priced competitively in the 150cc segment, around the Rs 1.2 lakh range. Once launched in the Indian market, the Yamaha MT-15 will rival the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the Suzuki Gixxer 155.
