Royal Enfield Interceptor 650’s Custom Exhaust Note Is As Good As A Harley — Listen To It Now!
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 was launched in November 2018 at a compelling price of Rs 2.50 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi), along with its Cafe Racer sibling, the Continental GT 650 (priced at Rs 2.65 lakh). Both motorcycles were long-awaited by 'RE fans' and Indian motorcycle enthusiasts alike, and for the same reason, bookings for the '650 Twins' are sky-rocketing.
Now, Kerala-based Grid7 Customs has introduced a new custom exhaust system for the Interceptor 650 (obviously fits the Continental GT as well). In a video shared on Facebook, we can hear the impressive exhaust note — earphones recommended!
Even though being a parallel-twin, the custom exhaust sounds noticeably similar to a Harley-Davidson V-Twin, upon throttling. On idle, the exhaust note is quite identical to the stock system. On the visual front, the barrels are slightly bigger than the regular ones.
Depending on the design of the barrel baffles, the angle of bend and the manifold dimensions, the sound characteristics of an aftermarket exhaust can be altered to a good extent. In the case of the 650 twins, the exhaust note can be made similar to that of a Harley-Davidson or a Triumph Bonneville (not an accurate explanation; shared just as a reference).
The new Royal Enfield 650 Twins are powered by a 649cc air/oil-cooled parallel-twin engine which makes 47bhp and 52Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission via a slipper-clutch.
Both motorcycles feature dual-channel ABS and retro-inspired spoke wheels. The classic styling and the overall charm of owning a twin-cylinder motorcycle have also impacted the brand's sales figures. In fact, those who wish to purchase a premium single-cylinder Royal Enfield such as the Classic 500 Chrome, are willing to spend a little more and buy a 650 twin.
Thoughts On The Interceptor 650's Custom Exhaust
In the coming days, there will be more such custom or aftermarket exhaust choices for the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, as well as the Continental GT 650. We also expect the brand themselves to introduce sportier exhaust systems for the same, with due compliance with various noise and pollution norms.
In the meantime, let us know what you think of Grid7's custom exhaust note, in the comment section below!
