Yamaha YZF-R15 BS-VI Engine Specs Leaked: India Launch Expected This Year
Japanese auto manufacturer Yamaha, is all set to introduce their BS-VI products in India market. The company had earlier confirmed that they would be making their line-up BS-VI compliant by November this year.
Ahead of its launch, a leaked document by IAB reveals the engine specs of the upcoming BS-VI compliant Yamaha R15 motorcycle. As seen from the document Yamaha will carry forward the same 155cc engine to make it BS-VI complaint and will now produce 18.3bhp.
There is a slight decrease in the power output of the BS-VI engine of 0.7bhp, as compared to the BS-IV compliant engine which produced 19bhp of power. Although, document does not reveal the torque figures of the upcoming motorcycle, we expect the figures to remain the same. The BS-VI engine will continue to come mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bike already features a fuel-injection system, which is mandatory for the BS-VI motorcycles.
The document also reveals the upcoming motorcycle to carry forward the same overall dimensions. The dimension reads length of 1990mm, a width of 725mm and height of 1135mm. The motorcycles will also feature the same wheelbase of 1325mm as well. We expect the bike to feature same seat height of 815 mm and ground clearance of 170 mm, as the overall dimension remains unchanged.
Apart from this, the BS-VI models will continue to feature the LED headlamps and tail-lamps with conventional turn indicators, a fully-digital LCD for Instrument cluster , and split-style step-up seats. However, a Bluetooth connectivity for the upcoming R15 can be expected to add more features to the bike.
The suspension and braking setup will be carried forward from the BS-IV model as well. The suspension duties on the current-gen R15 is handled by conventional telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock set up at the rear. Braking on the motorcycle is handled by a 282mm disc on the front and 220mm rotor at the rear, with dual-channel ABS assistance.
Yamaha has already confirmed that their BS-VI models could get costlier by 10% to 15%. The company has revised the prices of the current-gen YZF-R15 V3.0, and the motorcycle is now INR 600 more expensive than before. The standard version retails at Rs 1.40 lakh, while the Darknight edition is available for Rs 1.42 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Thoughts About The BS-VI Complaint Yamaha YZF-R15
The BS-VI complaint YZF-R15 largely will remain unchanged apart from the engine. The bike is also expected to features smart connectivity to enhance the rider experience. The new YZF-R15 will continue to rival the likes of KTM RC125, Suzuki Gixxer SF155, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS.
