Bajaj Pulsar 125 Drum Brake Variant Discontinued Due To Low Demand
Bajaj Auto has discontinued its entry level Pulsar 125 drum brake version. The motorcycle was launched a few months ago, along with the Pulsar 125 disc brake variant, but low demand has pushed the manufacturer to stop production.
The Pulsar 125 drum brake variant was launched in August this year, and was priced at Rs 64,000 (ex-showroom, India). Bajaj Auto has officially removed the motorcycle from its website.
The company's Pulsar 125 disc brake variant sold more simply because of pricing. Bajaj sells the disc brake model for an additional Rs 2,586 making it a better option at Rs 66,586 (ex-showroom India). The marginal difference pushed buyers to choose the disc brake variant instead of the drum brake model.
In addition to discontinuing the Pulsar 125 drum brake variant, the company has stopped offering the disc brake variant in its Solar Red and Platinum Silver colours. The motorcycle is available only in the Neon Blue paint scheme.
The Pulsar 125 is powered by a 124.4cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 11.8bhp of power and 11Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The engine is the only thing that set the 125 apart from the Pulsar 150cc Neon edition. The current-generation Pulsar 125 is priced at Rs 66,586 (ex-showroom, India).
In related news, Bajaj Auto has confirmed that the Pulsar 125 cc will continue to be available after the BS-VI norms kick in. The motorcycle will continue to feature a carburettor, therefore saving on costs of installing a fuel-injection unit.
Also, retaining the 125cc engine means that the motorcycle does not have to feature an ABS, and can make do with the (CBS) Combined Braking System that is featured on the motorcycle. This also keeps production costs down, effectively making it the most affordable of the Pulsar family.
Thoughts About The Pulsar 125 Drum Variant Being Discontinued
We're surprised Bajaj did not see this coming. Most consumers will opt for disc brakes if the difference is as small as Rs 2,586. A disc at the front end adds more stopping power and definitely adds more esteem, something that is very important to the Indian consumer.
