Bajaj Platina H Gear Arrives At Dealerships; Premium Variant Comes With New Features

The Bajaj Platina H Gear 110 has started reaching showroom floors. The H Gear is a more premium variant of the Bajaj Platina 110 Comfortec that we are used to seeing on our roads. The new H Gear variant comes with quite a few features that are first in its segment and is considered to be premium in the commuter motorcycle segment.

The commuter motorcycle segment is one that used to rule the motorcycle market in India. However, things have now changed. Performance and leisure biking has taken off and growing at a frightening pace while the commuter motorcycle segment remains more or less stagnant.

Well, even though there is little to no growth in the commuter motorcycle segment, it still forms a large chunk of the market and no mainstream manufacturer would want to be left out in the segment.

Bajaj fields the CT 100, Platina, Discover and V brands in the commuter motorcycle segment and each of the motorcycle variants under these brands hold their own in their respective classes ranging from 100cc to 150cc.

In the 100-110cc market though, only the Bajaj Platina has a considerable appeal to customers and hence Bajaj is only trying to expand the Platina brand by offering a more premium variant. Bajaj currently offers two variants of the Platina. The base variant is a 100cc model with basic level features and the second model on offer is the 110cc Comfortec variant.

Bajaj has pegged the 110cc Comfortec variant as one of the more comfortable motorcycles in the 110cc segment. Now, with the H Gear variant, Bajaj is bringing more to the table and is offering more features to the 110cc segment buyers than they would even expect.

The Bajaj Platina H Gear is based on the 110cc Comfortec. Hence, it features similar styling and that includes the simple headlamp design with the LED DRL placed right above it. It comes with a small plastic visor placed above the headlamp cluster.

It still features the same conventional commuter motorcycle design that we have seen over the years on the Bajaj Platina. The biggest change in terms of styling on the Patina H Gear is the new graphics scheme. Bajaj may also launch the Platina H Gear with more colour options.

It also features the same alloy wheel design as we have previously seen on the motorcycle. For the first time though, Bajaj has equipped the Platina with a disc brake up front. The disc brake appears to be the same 200mm unit seen on the Bajaj Discover 125.

The Bajaj Platina H Gear also comes with a digital-analogue instrument cluster. Speedometer duties are still taken care of by an analogue meter while the digital end of the business takes care of the odometer, fuel gauge, battery voltage warning, and gear shift indicator which can also indicate to the rider if the vehicle is being ridden in the wrong gear.

This two-way gear indicator feature is a segment-first and is certain to improve fuel efficiency by a large margin. The Bajaj Platina H Gear is powered by the same air-cooled, 115cc, single-cylinder engine. It produces a maximum power figure of 8.5bhp and a peak torque figure of 9.81Nm. A five speed gearbox drives the rear wheel. The suspension, wheels and tyres remain the same as on the 110 Comfortec variant.

Thoughts On Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Arrives At Dealerships

It was only recently that Rajiv Bajaj, MD for Bajaj Auto said that commuter motorcycles did not really generate any profit for the company. However, the segment is still so large that it simply cannot be ignored or neglected.

Bajaj has made the right choice of upgrading the Platina and coming up with another variant of the motorcycle. Now it all comes down to how it will be priced.
