Auto Expo 2018: Vespa Elettrica e-scooter showcased. Italian automaker Piaggio has revealed the new Vespa Elettrica scooter concept at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Vespa Elettrica was first unveiled at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy, and the scooter has now made its India debut. It's the first time Piaggio has showcased an electric two-wheeler in the country.
The Vespa Elettrica is equipped with an electric motor producing a continuous power output of 2.6bhp and a peak power of 5.2bhp. The electric motor draws power from a 4.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery with 1,000 charging cycles. Piaggio states that the Elettrica e-scooter delivers a superior performance which is equal to a 50cc scooter, especially with the initial acceleration.
The Vespa Elettrica will be offered in two variants, the standard version of the scooter delivers a riding range of 100km, and the Electtrica X comes with a range of over 200km. The electric scooter features two riding modes: Eco and Power. The top speed on the Eco mode is limited to 30km/h.
The Power mode on the Vespa Elettrica offers full acceleration. The electric scooter also comes with a reverse mode. The overall design of the Vespa Elettrica is retro-style, and it is complemented with modern equipment. The scooter is a perfect combination of advanced features and classic design.
Other prominent features of the Vespa Elettrica includes 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster with connectivity options, LED headlight, under seat storage, USB socket, 12-inch front wheel and 11-inch rear wheel. The electric scooter will be manufactured in Italy and will go on sale in the European markets in 2018.
Apart from the Vespa Elettrica, Piaggio has also launched the Aprilia SR 125 scooter in the Indian market. The Italian company has also revealed the new Storm 125 scooter based on the SR 125 in India which is expected to go on sale in the country by the end of 2018.
DriveSpark's Thoughts On The Vespa Elettrica
The Vespa Elettrica is a perfect amalgamation of classic retro-style design and advanced technology. The electric scooter is still in its concept form and will soon enter production in Italy. With India pushing the use of electric vehicles, Piaggio could introduce the Vespa Elettrica in India in 2019 or 2020.
