TVS has launched the new 2018 Apache RTR 160 4V in India at a starting price of Rs 81,490 ex-showroom (Delhi). The new Apache RTR 160 4V comes with an all-new design, 4-valve engine and several new features.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 has been in the Indian market for quite some time, and the bike desperately needed an update. Now, with the new design and features, the bike is sportier and more appealing.

The 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V also becomes the most powerful bike in the popular 160cc segment. One of the fierce rival for the new Apache 160 is the Bajaj Pulsar NS160. Design
The overall design of the new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is similar to its elder sibling, the Apache RTR 200 4V. The motorcycle gets a sharp headlamp upfront with integrated LED DRLs. The sculpted fuel tank with aggressive shrouds adds to the sporty look of the new Apache RTR 160 4V.

The side profile of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gets side panels finished in silver colour with the Apache branding. The bike also gets a sharp engine belly pan. The chequered flag decal on the fuel tank highlight the racing DNA of the Apache RTR 160.The new TVS insignia on the tank adds a premium touch to the new Apache RTR 160 4V.

The tail section of the 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V features sporty split grab rail, LED tail light and a short rear fender. The bike features the same dual-barrel exhaust seen on the Apache RTR 200 4V.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 looks identical to the bigger Pulsar NS200. The motorcycle features a sharp headlamp with twin pilot lamps. The tank is muscular with shrouds and the 160 branding. The side panels and frame are blacked out, and the engine belly pan adds to the looks of the bike.

The tail section of the Pulsar NS160 feature signature twin-LED tail light, sporty split grab rail, a rear tyre hugger and tail-tidy fender design. The dual-tone colour scheme and the body-coloured rim strips enhance the sporty appeal of the Pulsar NS160.

Features
The newly launched TVS Apache RTR 160 4V comes with several new features such as fully-digital instrument cluster borrowed from the Apache RTR 200 4V, LED DRL, LED tail light, new single piece handlebar, ram-air intake and alloy wheels.

The new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is equipped with telescopic forks up front, Showa-tuned monoshock suspension at the rear and dual-barrel exhaust muffler. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both the ends.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 also comes with several premium features such as analogue-digital instrument cluster, backlit switches, twin-LED tail light, underbelly exhaust and clip-on handlebars.
The Pulsar NS160 comes equipped with telescopic forks at the front and monoshock suspension setup at the rear. Braking department is handled by a single disc at the front and drum brake at the rear.

Engine Specifications, Gearbox and Mileage
The new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V draws power from a 159.7cc single cylinder, 4-valve, oil-cooled engine. The carburetted variant produces 16.28bhp, and the EFi version churns out 16.56bhp. Torque stands at 14.8Nm.
The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and is expected to deliver a mileage of around 40-45kpl.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 is powered by a 160.3cc single-cylinder, 4-valve, oil-cooled engine producing 15.28bhp and 14.6Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and expected to return a healthy mileage of 40-45kpl.

The 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is offered in three variants. The carb with front disc brake variant is priced at Rs 81,149, the car with rear disc brake variant costs Rs 84,490 and the EFi with rear disc brake model carries a price tag of Rs 89,990. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).
The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 is priced at Rs 81,626 ex-showroom (Delhi). The base variant of the Apache RTR 160 4V and the Pulsar NS160 are closely priced. But the Apache RTR 160 4V offers EFi, fully-digital advanced instrument cluster and rear disc brake which justifies its price tag.

Verdict
The new 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is an excellent commuter bike which can also handle spirited riding. With new features, the new Apache RTR 160 4V has become even more appealing, and it is the best bike in the 160cc segment.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 also offers aggressive styling but misses out on few key features. Both the bikes are priced competitively and offer good value for money. But the Apache RTR 160 4V edges out the Pulsar NS160 with its new features and equipment.
