Sherco TVS Factory Rally Team's Michael Metge has won the 15th edition of PanAfrica Rally with a strong performance in the final stage. His teammate and brother Adrien Metge recovered after a few navigation errors and finished the rally in the final podium position.
India's Abdul Wahid Tanveer continued his consistent performance and finished the PanAfrica Rally in a commendable eighth position. But Aravind KP had to retire from the rally after he suffered a fall in the very first stage. Tanveer managed to stay out of trouble and finished the rally.
The 2018 PanAfrica Rally comprised of five stages which also included the marathon stage. The riders had to tackle the toughest conditions and harsh terrain in the Sahara desert.
Commenting on his victory, Michael Metge said, "The PanAfrica Rally is tough and very competitive but I am thrilled to have won the championship. It has been a great learning ground and I would like to thank my team for their never-ending support."
Indian rider Abdul Wahid Tanveer was pleased with the result as he is gaining valuable experience in the international level rallying.
Tanveer said, "It was my first PanAfrica Rally and I am thrilled to finish in the top 10. It was a great learning ground for me and I am confident to face my future challenges now. A big shout out to my team as well, for being so supportive and guiding me at every stage in this unknown territory."
Team Manager of Sherco TVS Factory Rally Team, David Casteu said, "It was a very intense, stressful and challenging Rally but my racers made me very happy. I want to truly thank my technical team and all my racers for making it a success. Michael is in great form right now and he is putting good use of his learning's on the tracks."
Thoughts On Sherco TVS Factory Rally Team Winning The PanAfrica Rally
The PanAfrica Rally is one of the toughest cross-country rallies in the world with the stages passing through the Sahara desert. The Sherco TVS riders put up an impressive performance to achieve a good result. India's Abdul Wahid Tanveer finished the rally inside the top ten and showed what he is capable of in the international level rallying.
