Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki is working on a new product which is said to make its global debut in 2018. Yes, as per emerging reports, Kawasaki is working on the naked version of the Ninja 400 which will be called as Kawasaki Z400.
The new Kawasaki Z400 will be a part of the company's 2019 line-up. Kawasaki has filed new emission documents with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) under the name ER400DK. ER stands for naked and the K denotes the year 2019. Similarly, the Kawasaki Z300 was codenamed as ER300BG.
The Kawasaki Z400 is expected to draw power from the same engine which powers the Ninja 400. The currently sold Z250, Z650 and the Z1000 share their engines with the fully faired versions of the respective bikes. So, it would be a similar case with the new Z400.
The Kawasaki Z400 is likely to draw power from a 399cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that produces 49bhp and 38Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. The power figures will remain unchanged as compared to the Ninja 400.
Kawasaki has already discontinued the Ninja 300 in the global markets but continues to retail the bike in India alongside the Ninja 400. The locally assemble Ninja 300 is priced at 2.98 lakh while the Ninja 400 comes with a hefty price tag of Rs 4.69 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.
Kawasaki is expected to unveil the new Z400 at the EICMA motorcycle show in Italy which is scheduled to take place in November 2018. Kawasaki might also introduce the Z400 in the Indian market and it could be priced around Rs 4 lakh. But still, it will be a steep price tag.
Thoughts On The Kawasaki Z400
Kawasaki is working on the naked version of the Ninja 400 which is likely to be named as Z400. The Kawasaki Z400 will make its global debut at the EICMA 2018. We can expect Kawasaki to introduce the Z400 in India as it retails the Z250, Z650 and Z1000. The Kawasaki Z400 will rival the likes of KTM Duke 390 and the BMW G 310 R.
