Kawasaki has launched the Ninja 400 in India with a price tag of Rs 4.69 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The Ninja 400 features a more sharp and aggressive design as compared to the Ninja 300.
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 is targeted towards beginner riders who want to own a bike in the range of 300cc to 600cc. One of the fierce rivals for the Ninja 400 is the Yamaha YZF-R3. So how does the Ninja 400 fare against the Yamaha R3?

Design
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 features a sharper design as compared to the Ninja 300. The aggressive twin-headlamp setup and a large windscreen give the motorcycle a bold stance. The muscular fuel tank with the neatly integrating fairing adds to the looks of the Ninja 400.

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 gets a narrow tail section with sleek LED tail light and a new exhaust canister. The signature Kawasaki green and black colours with new decals enhance the looks of the motorcycle.
On the other hand, the Yamaha R3 also sports a sharp front end with twin-headlight setup and a large windscreen. The sculpted fuel tank and a fairing with cuts and creases add to the looks of the bike.
The tail section is sleek and gets a modern looking LED tail light. The exhaust muffler is also much smaller and compact as compared to the Ninja 400. Overall, both the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and Yamaha R3 features a similar design with an aggressive stance.

Features
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 gets an all-new digital instrument cluster with the premium digital display as compared to the Ninja 300. The Ninja 400 also comes with a LED tail light and new exhaust canister.
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 is equipped with telescopic forks up front and monoshock suspension at the rear. Breaking duties are handled by disc brakes at both the ends with ABS as standard. The motorcycle also gets slipper clutch.
The Yamaha R3 also comes loaded with features such as digital-analogue instrument cluster and LED headlight. The motorcycle features telescopic forks at the front and monoshock suspension at the rear. The R3 also gets disc brakes at both the ends with ABS as standard.
When it comes to features, both the Ninja 300 and R3 are evenly matched, but the Ninja 400 has an advantage of a slipper clutch.

Engine Specifications
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 draws power from a 399cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine producing 48.3bhp and 38Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch.
Powering the Yamaha R3 is a 321cc inline twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine churning out 41bhp and 29.6Nm of torque. Technically, the Ninja 400 is more powerful as compared to the Yamaha R3.

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 is launched in India with a price tag of Rs 4.69 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The Yamaha YZF-R3 is available at Rs 3.48 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The Ninja 400 is slightly expensive as compared to some of its rivals. But Yamaha R3 is reasonably priced considering the equipment it gets.
Verdict
Both the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and the Yamaha R3 are equally capable bikes in its segment. But the Ninja 400 has an added advantage of slipper clutch which improves the overall performance. Both the bikes are suitable for a beginner rider.
If you are looking for a bike in the entry-level performance segment with outright performance, then your choice should be the Kawasaki Ninja 400. If you are on a budget and looking for a fully-faired bike in the above 300cc class, then you can blindly go for the Yamaha R3.
