Harley Davidson is planning to enter the used bike business in India. The company is also planning to launch apparel stores across malls in the country.
Harley-Davidson recently announced its plans to enter the used-bike segment in India. The company is currently testing the concept in some of its dealerships in the country.
Peter Mackenzie, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India, confirmed that the concept has been piloting in a few dealerships. As the company is ready to roll out the programme soon in India.
Harley-Davidson currently has 27 dealerships spread across India and plans to open three more by the end of the year. Mackenzie stated that India is an important market for the company. Hence, they have a number of investment plans for the future.
Peter Mackenzie stated, "The used-bike business will enable us to attract more customers. Secondly, to enable people, perhaps who cannot afford a new Harley-Davidson, but at least get the right Harley-Davidson experience through an authorised dealership."
Speaking about the previous year, he said, "2017 had its complexities with demonetisation, GST and Euro IV. This year, we are looking at more stability."
The company is also planning to add Harley-Davidson apparel stores in shopping malls across the country.
About the Harley-Davidson apparel stores, "The company's strategy was to be more accessible and more relevant to customers. The ‘apparel segment' represents an important piece of strategy for growth."
He further added, "We will be opening up more apparel stores in shopping malls so that customers connect and experience the Harley-Davidson brand. That is a major piece of strategy in growing this year."
"We have opened three (apparel) stores already this year. The apparel range would be available in these stores that would be more 'youthful' and designed to connect with young adults."
Thoughts On Harley-Davidson Entering Used-Bike Segment
There is still no information as to when Harley-Davidson's used-bike programme will begin but is expected to start soon.
