Ducati SuperSport And SuperSport S To Be Recalled In India — Here’s Why
Italian superbike manufacturer Ducati will issue a recall for the SuperSport and SuperSport S over a faulty hose issue. Ducati has already recalled both the bikes in the US market.
According to a paperwork filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 1,431 units of SuperSport And SuperSport S has been affected by this recall in the US.
Now, Ducati India has confirmed that certain units of the SuperSport And SuperSport S are also affected in India and the company has even recorded a few VINs (Vehicle Identification Number). Currently, Ducati is in the process of informing the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and SIAM about the recall.
Ducati will soon issue an official statement about the recall of the SuperSport And SuperSport S in India. The number of units affected by this recall will be also revealed in the official statement. Ducati India has decided to recall the bikes in India after it identified several complaints in the US market.
The reason behind the recall of the SuperSport And SuperSport S is due to a faulty hose. Yes, certain hoses are routed too close to the exhaust manifold, which could melt the hose due to excessive heat generated from the exhaust manifold. Ducati has already received reports of bikes catching fire in the US because of this issue.
The fuel tank overfill hose and the airbox blow-by hose are too close to the exhaust manifold. Melting of this hose will result in flammable fuel, in vapour and/or liquid form to come into contact with the hot exhaust manifold. If this happens, then there is a risk of bike catching fire.
The NHTSA has already warned the SuperSport riders to watch out for tell-tale signs which indicate any failure such as smoke at idle or odour of burning rubber from the lower left side of the fairing.
Ducati will fix this issue by re-routing the hoses. The position of the hoses will be altered to put them in front of the existing wiring to avoid any contact with the exhaust manifold. The affected bikes were manufactured at the Bologna plant in Italy while the models sold in India have been built at the Thailand plant.
