Indian two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto is renowned for its Pulsar brand in the country. But before that, the company was popular for its Chetak geared scooter. After the advent of automatic scooters, Bajaj had to put an end to the Chetak. But now it looks like the Bajaj Chetak will make a comeback.
Yes, GaadiWaadi reports that Bajaj Auto will bring back the Chetak brand and it is expected to be launched in 2019. The report states that the upcoming Bajaj Chetak will be a 125cc scooter and will be priced around Rs 70,000. Bajaj will be looking to encash the classic Chetak brand which was popular in the Indian market.
The new Bajaj Chetak will feature a retro style design and will offer a right mix of mileage and performance. If the reports are to be believed, the upcoming Bajaj Chetak will be powered by a 125cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces around 9.5bhp and will also offer a high mileage.
The new Bajaj Chetak will be loaded with features such as a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, USB mobile charging port, alloy wheels, numerous storage spaces, spacious seat and underseat storage and CBS (Combined Braking System). Bajaj might even offer a disc brake at the front.
Previously in 2015, MD of Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj had stated that the company will not launch an automatic scooter anytime soon. He said that Bajaj is focussing on strengthening its position in the global motorcycle market before entering a new segment.
Now, with the latest report, it looks like Bajaj Auto is finally ready to jump into the popular automatic scooter segment. The new Bajaj Chetak will be a fierce rival to the Honda Activa and the other scooters such as the Piaggio Vespa, Aprilia SR150 and even the TVS Ntorq.
