Aprilia Bikes At Auto Expo 2018
Italian brand Piaggio entered India in 2012 with the Vespa, developed mainly for the Indian market. The brand then looked to introduce a premium scooter and create a new segment. Piaggio launched the SR150 in India in 2016, which took the market by storm. Now the company wants to enter the mass market segment to increase its presence in the market. At India's biggest automotive event Aprilia had some surprises in store for auto enthusiasts. Here is the list of Aprilia bikes and scooters at Auto Expo 2018 to give you insight into the future of Aprilia bikes and scooters for India.
Aprilia SR125
As mentioned, the Aprilia SR150 took the market by storm and now the company wants to enter the mass market scooter segment in India. The Aprilia SR125 was launched with a competitive price tag of Rs 65,310. While its rivals are priced nearly Rs 5,000 less, the SR125 is the most powerful 125cc scooter in the segment which competes with the likes of Honda Grazia, newly launched TVS Ntorq, and the Suzuki Burgman Street which was unveiled at Auto Expo 2018.
The all-new Aprilia SR125 draws power from a 124cc, 3-valve, single-cylinder engine which produces 9.46bhp @ 8,500rpm and 8.2Nm of torque @ 7,500rpm. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox, while the new Aprilia SR125 gets a 7-litre fuel tank and boasts a ground clearance of 775mm.
As for the design, the new SR125 for India draws its inspiration from its elder sibling SR150 with twin-pod headlight, and the turn indicators are placed on either side of the handlebar. Aprilia SR125 Storm
Aprilia also showcased the SR125 Storm edition claimed to be a fun riding scooter for everyday use. The new SR125 Storm comes with several funky colours options with youthful graphics. The SR125 Storm centres around a sporty riding experience with the 12-inch alloy wheels which are shod with dual-purpose wide tyres, front telescopic shocks at the front, mono-shock at the rear and front disc brakes.
The same engine powers the new Aprilia SR125 Storm edition as the regular SR125 scooter with its 124cc unit producing 9.46bhp @ 8,500rpm and 8.2Nm of torque @ 7,500rpm. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox. The SR125 Storm is designed to go soft off-roading with its 12-inch wheels and dual-purpose tyres. Piaggio has not released the launch details of the SR125 Storm edition, but with the popularity of Aprilia scooter in India, it's just a matter of time for Aprilia to launch the SR125 Storm in India.
Aprilia RS 150
The biggest surprise from Piaggio is the showcase of the Aprilia RS 150 at Auto Expo 2018. Why the surprise factor? Well, this is the first time the Aprilia RS 150 debut in the global market revealing the company's plan for India. The Aprilia RS 150 is a scaled down version of the Aprilia RS V4.
The Aprilia RS 150 draws power from a new 150cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine producing 17bhp @ 10,000rpm and 14Nm of torque @ 7,500rpm. The RS 150 gets a 40mm upside down (USD) fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. The new RS 150 gets 17-inch alloy wheels equipped with 300mm disc at the front and a 218mm disc brake at the rear. While ABS is standard, a quick shifter is available as optional.
Piaggio has not revealed if and when the Aprilia SR 150 launch is scheduled for India as its gauging customer reaction at the event to take a final decision. That said, we expect the RS 150 to be a favourite model, and Aprilia should consider launching the bike soon.
Aprilia Tuono 150
The Aprilia Tuono 150 is the naked street version of the RS 150 and is the scaled down model of its elder sibling, Tuono V4. The Tuono 150 is another product from Aprilia which could threaten the segment where it competes with the likes of the newly launched Yamaha R15 V3 and other 150cc powered motorcycles.
Like the Aprilia RS 150, the Tuono 150 draws power from a 150cc engine churning out 17bhp @ 10,000rpm and 14Nm of torque @ 7,500rpm. The Tuono 150 gets a 40mm upside down (USD) fork at the front and a mono-shock at the back. The new Tuono 150 gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 300mm disc brake at the front and a 218mm disc at the rear. The ABS is standard, while a quick shifter is available as optional accessory.
Thoughts About Aprilia Bikes & Scooter At Auto Expo 2018
Aprilia showcased some of the best products at the auto expo especially the Aprilia Tuono 150 and RS 150, which is a promising product for India. While Aprilia is gauging people's reaction, we feel both the bikes are an excellent product. Also, the SR 125 has now threatened some of the bigger players such as Honda, TVS and Suzuki.
