Yamaha showcased its ambitious project, the Motobot robot rider at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The sole reason behind the project was to develop a robot which could shatter the race track records around the world and to help develop new technology.

The Motobot robot sits on a Yamaha R1 and has undergone rigorous testing. Now, Yamaha has released a video of the Motobot racing against the MotoGP champion, Valentino Rossi.

Compared to a human rider Mobot has its limitations. The robot rider sits on the R1 in a forward-leaning posture which does not allow the Motobot to lean into corners as its human counterpart. Numerous sensors assist the robot and it can control the throttle, clutch and gear.

On the other hand, Rossi has an added advantage of weight transfer to extract the most out of the motorcycle. The Motobot is in a fixed position which is not good while riding on a race track.

But it is amazing how a robot can ride against the MotoGP Champion and it was just 30 seconds slower than Rossi. Yamaha will continue to improve the Motobot and maybe one day the robot rider might beat Rossi!
