TVS Sails Ahead Of Hero In Scooter Sales; Now India's Second Largest Scooter Seller
TVS overtook Hero Moto Corp as the Nation's second largest scooter seller during the April-February period this fiscal.
Chennai-based TVS Motor Corp has achieved another milestone in the scooter segment by overtaking Hero Motor Corp to become the country's second largest scooter seller during the April-February period of the 2016/17 fiscal year.
According to the latest data from SIAM, TVS sold 7,43,838 units during the April 2016-February 2017 period growing by 5.07 percent year over year.
Hero's scooter sales on the other hand contracted by 1.64 percent down to 7,19,987 units compared to 7,31,967 units in the same period the previous fiscal year.
However, both manufacturers are still a long way behind the market leader Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, which recorded a growth of 15.32 per cent.
Honda sold a total of 29,34,794 scooters in India during the April 2016-February 2017 period which is a staggering 3,89,922 units more than the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Yamaha meanwhile retained the fourth spot in the India market selling 3,95,704 units with Suzuki in fifth spot with sales of 2,51,504 scooters during the April-February period.
Scooter sales, on the whole, grew by 11.7 percent (5,36,357 units) in the April-February period this fiscal to 51,17,997 units as against 45,81,640 units in the same period last fiscal.
