Triumph Signs A Deal With Dorna To Supply Engines For Moto2
British manufacturer Triumph will be the solo engine supplier for the Moto2 World Championship starting with the 2019 season.
British manufacturer Triumph will be the engine supplier for the Moto2 World Championship starting with the 2019 season. Since the start of the series in 2010, Honda has been supplying its modified 600cc CBR engines.
The Moto2 category replaced the famous 250cc two-stroke racing championship after Honda introduced a heavily re-worked 600cc production engine in 2010.

Triumph Motorcycles has announced themselves as the exclusive engine supplier to the FIM Moto2 World Championship from the 2019 season onward.

Triumph has signed a three-year contract with Dorna - the commercial rights holder of MotoGP - to supply a dedicated race tuned 765cc Triumph three-cylinder engine, based on the powerplant from the all-new 2017 Triumph Street Triple.

The new engine is a significant development of the race-winning Daytona 675R powerplant that has powered super sports wins at the Isle of Man TT, Daytona 200 and British Supersports Championships in 2014 and 2015.

It is expected to make appearances in the CEV Moto2 European Championship next year as part of its development programme.

"This is a significant moment for Triumph that brings an exciting new chapter to our 110-year racing history and builds on our celebrated TT and Supersport race winning triple engines," Triumph's chief commercial officer Paul Stroud said.

The new engine which Triumph is going to supply to the teams will produce around 128bhp, paired with an ECU developed by the supplier of MotoGP's control unit Magneti Marelli.
