Nicky Hayden In Critical Condition After Cycling Accident
Honda World Superbike rider and former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden is seriously injured in a bicycle crash in Italy. He is said to be in a medically induced coma after a surgery.
Honda World Superbike rider Nicky Hayden is seriously injured after his bicycle collided with a car in Rimini, Italy. He was riding with a group of cyclists when the accident happened.
As per reports, former MotoGP champion was involved in a collision with a Peugeot in Rimini. The 36-year-old rider is a keen cyclist and was riding with 14 other cyclists when the accident happened.
Hayden collided head-on with a car and was thrown over the bonnet and into the windshield of the car. Soon, an ambulance rushed to the spot, and the medics considered the injuries as life-threatening.
Immediately Hayden was shifted to a hospital in Rimini were he was treated for head and chest trauma. After four hours, the hospital staff announced that he was moved to the major trauma unit for possible surgery.
By the photographs of the car, several impacts can be seen on the windshield and the roof of the car. The bicycle is also damaged by the collision and has a broken frame. Hayden is well known for his love of riding the bicycle, and it is disappointing that the rider suffered serious injury while doing what he loved.
US Motorcycling website, Asphalt&Rubber reports that Hayden had a surgery and is in medically induced coma. He is likely to remain in this condition for the next 24 hours.
