The rule-making body of the MotoGP, the Grand Prix Commission has permitted the dashboard messages in the race from 2018. The decision was made on the eve of German Grand Prix.
Currently, the Race Direction can send warning messages to the riders, and the same technology has been extended for 2018. The new system might change the way a rider tackles a race.

GPC stated that few teams are already experimenting the technology in 2017, to send short messages to the rider. The messages include lap time, race information and safety instructions.
In a statement, GPC said, "It has already been confirmed that machines in the Moto3 and MotoGP class must have the dashboard facility to display text messages, linked to the current warning lights, with effect from 2018."

The new rule will apply to the Moto2 class in 2019. GPC said that some teams have already equipped the system on their machines. Such teams can use the technology as a virtual pit board.

In MotoGP, the riders cannot communicate with the team from the track. They have to rely on the pit board messages for any information regarding the race. Now, the dashboard message will change the whole game as the riders will be aware of the race conditions.
