MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso Wins British Grand Prix; Marc Marquez Retires
Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso won the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit.
Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso won the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit and took the MotoGP championship lead as his title rival Marc Marquez suffered an engine failure.
Dovizioso started the race from the sixth position, he worked his way through the field and passed Valentino Rossi on the 18th lap. Then he managed to keep the lead intact and kept Maverick Vinales at bay to take the victory by a narrow margin of 0.114 seconds.

Yamaha factory rider Vinales also made his move on his teammate Rossi on the 18th lap and finished the race in second place. Rossi who led the race from the start couldn't match the pace of his teammate and finished in the final podium position.

Honda rider Marquez started the race in pole position and was running in third place behind Rossi and Dovizioso. But during lap 14 he suffered an engine failure which also cost him the championship lead.

Cal Crutchlow was the closest rider following the leading group; he finished fourth in his LCR Honda. Jorge Lorenzo finished the race in a lonely fifth position.

Tech3 Yamaha rider Johann Zarco challenged Lorenzo after passing Dani Pedrosa, but he couldn't manage to overhaul Lorenzo and took sixth place. Pedrosa struggled throughout the race and finished in the seventh position.

Scott Redding, Alex Rins and Alvaro Bautista rounded off the top ten finishers. In a bizarre incident, 11th place finisher Pol Espargaro crashed after the chequered flag despite travelling at low speeds.

With the victory at Silverstone, Dovizioso has passed Marquez in the rider's championship. Marquez was unfortunate to suffer an engine failure. Vinales is right behind the Honda rider in third.The three riders will battle it out for the title in the remaining races of the season.
