Rider Struck By Lightning During Stage 4 Of 2017 Dakar Rally
Dakar veteran and KTM rider, Ivan Jakes was struck by lightning during stage 4 of the Dakar Rally and survived.
The Dakar Rally is known as the toughest form of motorsports in the world, thanks to pleasant and mostly unpleasant surprises the race has in store.
One of the weirdest things experienced yet is lightning strike, and that is exactly what happened to Slovakian KTM rider, Ivan Jakes.
The veteran Dakar competitor was struck by lightning near Salar Centenario, Argentina, about 190 miles (almost 306km) from the finish line of stage 4.
Reports suggest that since Jakes had his foot on the pegs of the motorcycle, he survived, since the tyres would have insulated him. Also, not only did he survive, but also managed to finish stage 4 in the 15th position, despite the agonising pain.
Stage 4 of the 2017 Dakar Rally has seen a lot of things happen already, and one major pointer is that last year's Dakar Winner, Toby Price has suffered an injury is now out of the race.
