Honda Overtakes Bajaj In Two-Wheeler Sales In India
Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda has outpaced Bajaj Auto in two-wheeler sales in the month of April. Honda is very close to Hero MotoCorp to acquire the first position.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has outpaced Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto in cumulative sales in April. Honda is now the second best-selling brand in the country.

Honda is now in a striking distance behind Hero to become the largest two-wheeler maker in the country. Bajaj Auto witnessed a dip in sales by 19 percent with 1,61,930 units sold in April. Honda leads Bajaj by a margin of 21,336 units.

Honda trails Hero MotoCorp by just 12,377 units, and the company hopes to move to the top of the table. Japanese company recorded a spike in sales in April by 34 percent by selling 5,78,929 units. Best sales figures in a month.

Segment leader Hero MotoCorp recorded a decline in sales by 3.5 percent and managed to retail 5,91,306 units. Activa played a significant role in the growth of Honda as 3.5 lakh scooters retailed in April.

HMSI Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, YS Guleria said, "We're happy that for the first time, we've become the No 2 motorcycle-maker, overtaking the incumbent by a wide margin (over 21,330 units). This was possible after our overall sales jumped 34 percent in April."

He added, "Having began fiscal 2018 year on a high, we are looking forward to meet the target set for the year-- 20 per cent volume growth at 6 million units over 5 million units in fiscal 2017."

Guleria stated that the sales volumes were driven by 125cc Shine motorcycle. The Shine accounts for nearly 55 percent of the cumulative sales. He said the company aims to cross the 5.5 million cumulative sales of Shine this month.
