The Honda 2018 Gold Wing is an all-new motorcycle from the wheel up and employs a newly-developed horizontally-opposed, flat six-cylinder engine featuring 4-valves per cylinder and is 6.2kg lighter.
Honda's touring icon has been around for over four decades, and the current model comes with modern technology, performance and luxury over the previous model apart from the entirely new chassis and design.
The 2018 Honda Gold Wing looks sharper, receives a small front fairing and an electrically adjustable windscreen. The rider continues to enjoy the comfort of the seat, while the pillion has enough support to cruise for long distances.
The large panniers and the top box offer up to 110-litres of storage and the tourer come with a host of connectivity features. Among the significant change in the new Gold Wing is a new 7-inch full-colour TFT screen that replaces the conventional instrument cluster.
The touchscreen infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay connectivity but misses out on Android Auto. Other features include full LED headlamps with auto cancelling indicators and a smart key control for added comfort.
The Japanese bike manufacturer has also introduced the new Throttle by Wire tech on the 2018 Gold Wing that offers four riding modes: Tour, Sport, Econ and Rain. Additionally, there's Honda Stability Torque Control (HSTC), which controls suspension damping for heightened rider control.
The bike is also equipped with force Idling Stop and Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) for a quick start, along with ABS and Dual-Combined Braking System (D-CBS) for better control. The new Goldwing also comes with Hill Start Assist feature as well.
Mechanically, the 2018 Honda Gold Wing is powered by a 1833cc six-cylinder engine producing 125bhp @ 5,500rpm and 170Nm of torque @ 4,500rpm, and as mentioned above, the engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
The 2018 Honda Gold Wing is available in two variants: Standard and Gold Wing Tour and comes in Candy Ardent Red colour.
Honda has begun bookings for the 2018 Goldwing, and customers can book the same only at Honda's exclusive Wing World sales & service outlets in Delhi (C-126, Industrial Area Phase - I, Naraina) and Mumbai (H-Kantilal & Co. Compound, Sakinaka, Andheri-East). The deliveries for the new Gold Wing will begin this New Year 2018 on first come first serve basis.
Speaking on the launch of the new Gold Wing, HMSI - Senior Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Yadvinder Singh Guleria said, "The 2018 Gold Wing was first showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 2017 and delighting our customers in India, Honda is today starting the bookings for this legend."
"The new generation Gold Wing gets a 7-speed DCT, revolutionary suspension setup, Apple CarPlay, HSTC and a brand new engine, making it a true rider's motorcycle. The best ever Gold Wing with all these new features is a complete generation leap and yet comes with an unmatched price."
Honda seems to have benchmarked the standard of luxury tourers with the 2018 Gold Wing. That said, the bike will have to face fierce competition from the likes of Indian Roadmaster, Harley-Davidson CVO Limited and the likes in India.
