First 'Bajaj-Triumph' Bike To Be A 500cc Single-Cylinder
The first bike from the new Bajaj-Triumph partnership is set to be a 500cc single-cylinder according to a report.
The first new motorcycle from the alliance between Triumph and India's Bajaj Auto will be a 500cc, single cylinder as the British motorcycle marque looks to expand its reach in India.
According to ET Auto's sources, the 500cc single-cylinder motorcycle could arrive in India by 2020. Speaking to the same publication, Triumph's Cheif Commercial Officer Paul Stroud stated that his company would concentrate on 500+cc motorcycles while the partnership with Bajaj would target the 250-700cc segments.
While India currently accounts for just 2 percent of Triumph's total sales volumes, the British brand sees great potential in the country, which is why it chose to come here and ally itself with Bajaj instead of heading to China.

Triumph sees India making up for a huge chunk of its future sales which could see it become one of the bigger players in the Indian market in the country more quickly, which it hopes will become its biggest market. Triumph also plants to assemble 90 percent of its motorcycles in India by mid-2018.
Stoud told ET Auto, "The partnership with Bajaj will enable us to become a bigger brand within the country more quickly. You could be talking about a scenario where Triumph goes from selling 1,200 motorcycles today to volumes that are north of 1,00,000 units, which is a significant scale. That is the power of the opportunity,"
Triumph had earlier planned to go it alone in India with a smaller capacity 250cc motorcycle, a project which has since been shelved due the new alliance. The alliance allows the two companies to pool their resources which will allow Triumph to push forward in the mid-size segment faster than it would take them to do it alone.

If Bajaj's proven record with KTM in India is anything to go by, the partnership between the Indian manufacturer and Triumph could very well be the golden ticket to the duo giving a bloody nose to Royal Enfield, which is currently the alpha wolf in the mid-size motorcycle segment in India.
