FB Mondial To Commence Distribution In India
Italian motorcycle manufacturer FB Mondial is planning to enter the Indian market with its HPS 125.
Italian motorcycle manufacturer FB Mondial is planning to enter the Indian market. Motoroids reports that the company will commence distribution in the country in the next two or three months.
Previously, the FB Mondial HPS 125 was spotted in Pune near the ARAI office. The motorcycle was bearing a temporary registration plate and was being homologated before the launch. But the company did not reveal about setting up a production plant or any tie-up in India.
FB Mondial was founded in 1929 in Milan, Italy. The company dominated the Motorcycle World Championships between 1949 and 1957 and produced some of the advanced and successful GP racers. In the process, the company won five rider's and manufacturer's title.
In 1957, the founder of Honda, Soichiro Honda purchased an FB Mondial race motorcycle which won the 125cc and 250cc world titles. Later on, Honda used these motorcycles to develop its racing machines. The original Mondial 125 is still on display at Honda's Motegi Collection Hall.
But at the end of 1957 Grand Prix, Mondial pulled out of racing with increasing cost and weak sales. But it continued to produce motorcycles by purchasing engines from proprietary makers. The production was completely stopped in 1979.
In 2014, the owner of Mondial and Cesare Galli, the holder of Pelpi International Italy started the rebuild of the company. In 2015, the design sketches turned into prototypes and ultimately the production version of the HPS 125, and HPS 250 came to life.
Piaggio manufactures the motorcycles in China. The design of HPS series is a combination of classic Mondial character and modern technology. The modern Mondials draw power from the Piaggio engines.
Currently, Mondial offers four products - the HPS 125, HPS 250 with cafe-racer theme and SMT and SMX off-road motorcycles. The recently spotted model in India, the HPS 125 draws power from a 125cc liquid-cooled engine producing 13.2bhp and 10.5Nm of torque.
The HPS 125 also features upside down forks up front and twin shocks setup at the rear. The motorcycle comes with spoke wheel shod with dual-purpose tyres. The scrambler style twin-exhaust pipes and flat handlebars enhance the looks of the motorcycle.

FB Mondial is one of the legendary Italian motorcycle makers which was revived in 2014. Now, the company is set to enter the Indian market with its HPS 125 cafe-racer style motorcycle. But it is still unknown about its operational structure in the country.
