Delhi Government Orders Registration Of BS-III Two-Wheelers
The Government of Delhi has directed the Transport department to register BS-III two-wheelers which were sold on or before March 31, 2017.
The Government of Delhi has ordered to register the BS-III two-wheelers which were sold on or before March 31, 2017. The decision has been taken following a high court order.

The development is a relief to several car dealers who had retailed the BS-III vehicles till March 31, 2017. The dealers were not able to register the BS-III vehicle as RTOs did not accept the documents after Supreme Court had set the deadline.

The Apex Court had set March 31, 2017, as the deadline for the sale and registration of BS-III vehicles. Around 1,000 BS-III two-wheelers are still waiting for registration in the capital city.

The Transport department in an order stated that before the registration of the BS-III vehicles, the RTOs should make sure that they were sold on or before March 31.

The order read, "The registering authority would take into account the proof of online payment made on or before March 31 or the issuance of an insurance policy online on or before the said date in the name of the purchaser."

The order added that in case of online payment, or the insurance policy not issued within the deadline, the licensing office would be responsible for the violation. The deadline for producing the vehicles before the licensing officers has been extended to May 15, 2017.

Although, the order will be only applicable to non-self registering dealers who are unable to make online payment of service tax. Several dealers had moved Delhi High Court stating that the Transport department is not considering the documents, even though the vehicles were sold before March 31.
