Barry Sheene’s Iconic RG500 Restored
British rider Barry Sheene's championship-winning Suzuki XR14 RG500 has been restored in the UK.
British rider Barry Sheene's 41-year-old world championship winning machine has undergone a major overhaul in the UK.
The Suzuki XR14 RG500 is still owned by the late Sheene's family. The championship-winning motorcycle has been completely restored by Martyn Ogborne, Sheene's race technician at Team Suzuki in the 1970s.

The motorcycle was initially brought to the UK in 2016 as part of Suzuki's celebration which marked the 40 years of Sheene's maiden world title. Suzuki backed the whole restoration process.

The Suzuki Vintage Parts Program still supplies genuine Suzuki spare parts for older models such as road-version of the RG500. The video has been released as a two-part series.

The flamboyant rider Sheene won the world 500cc championship in 1976 and 1977. He also won the European Formula 750 title in 1973. In total, he won 19 world 500cc races.
Sheene was made a motorcycling Grand Prix legend in 2001 by the sport's governing body. In the late 1980s, he moved to Australia and died in 2003 because of cancer. The second restoration video will be released on June 7, 2017.
