Bajaj Avenger 400 Cruiser In The Works; Should Royal Enfield Be Worried?
Bajaj Auto is reportedly developing a bigger version of the Avenger cruiser motorcycle to rival Royal Enfield.
Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto launched the Dominar 400 to rival the Royal Enfield. But the sports cruiser was not a fruitful product in the Indian market. Instead, the company is focusing on the export markets.
Now, Finanacial Express reports that Bajaj is developing a bigger version of the Avenger cruiser motorcycle. Another report also suggests that the company will soon launch a new variant of the cruiser which hints that a new Avenger is on its way.

Bajaj is likely to be developing a 400cc version of the Avenger to take on the likes of Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 and 500. The bigger Avenger will also take on the UM Renegade line up in the country. The bigger avatar of the cruiser motorcycle is expected to be introduced by March 2018.

The new Bajaj Avenger 400 is likely to borrow the 373cc engine from the Dominar 400. The currently sold Avenger lineup also borrows its engine from the Pulsar series. The Avenger 150 and 220 get their engines from the Pulsar 150 and 220.

The Avenger 400 might be equipped with a modified frame to accommodate the bigger 373cc engine. On the Dominar 400, the 373cc engine churns out 35bhp and 35Nm of torque. The engine might be detuned to deliver more low-end torque as the cruiser motorcycle are not ridden aggressively as naked motorcycles.

The Dominar's engine also features four-valve head, liquid-cooling, triple spark plugs and fuel injection. All of these features are expected to be retained on the Avenger 400. The new cruiser motorcycle is likely to get dual-channel ABS similar to the Dominar 400.

Bajaj has been trying to target Royal Enfield with the Dominar 400, but it did not go as per the plan. The Dominar 400 is not selling in big numbers in India as compared to the Royal Enfield. So, Bajaj has decided to focus on the export markets and the motorcycle has a good demand in several foreign markets.

The primary rival for the Avenger 400 will be the popular Royal Enfield Thunderbird. 350 and 500. Bajaj is known for offering value for money products and the Avenger 400 will be no different. Expect the bigger Avenger to be equipped with better technology and specifications which will give it an upper hand against the Royal Enfield.
