Automatic Scooters To Become Segment Leader In Two-Wheeler Industry
With the record number of automatic scooters sold in India, it is all set to lead the two-wheeler industry in the country.
With record sales performance in April 2017, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. is now driving the biggest evolution of Indian two-wheeler industry.
Honda has made a great entry to the financial year 2017-18 by registering highest ever automatic scooter sales of 3,68,550 units in April 2017. The sales grew at an accelerated 40 percent which is faster than the scooter segment growth of 25 percent.
Honda's market share in automatic scooter segment is at all time high of 63 percent. Honda has strengthened its undisputed leadership gaining 6.6 percent share on the back of demand for new BS-IV scooters.
Led by HMSI, the automatic scooter is now the only growing segment and is driving the domestic two-wheeler industry. In April 2017, automatic scooter segment sales grew by 25 percent. As a result, automatic scooter segment's contribution to two-wheeler industry is now at 35 percent.
Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, HMSI Yadvinder Singh Guleria said, "From its debut in 2001, Honda 2Wheelers India re-activated the automatic scooter segment. Over the years, Honda has strengthened its leadership in automatic scooter segment with its two core strengths - advance technology and innovation."
In just six years, the contribution of automatic scooter segment to domestic industry has increased by 35 percent in April 2017 led by HMSI. The 110cc motorcycle segment contribution has declined from 49 percent to 36 percent in the same period.
