Attention TT Fans! Guy Martin Makes Isle Of Man TT Return With Honda
Guy Martin is widely regarded as the best rider never to have won around the 37.73-mile Isle of Man TT mountain course.
British rider Guy Martin has signed a deal with the official Honda Racing team to ride alongside John McGuinness at this year's Isle of Man TT. Martin will ride in an international road race for the first time since a horrific crash at the Ulster Grand Prix in 2015.
The Lincolnshire rider is widely regarded as the best rider never to have won around the 37.73-mile Isle of Man TT mountain course. After missing last year's TT, Martin will try once again with Honda Racing to achieve what he has not done before, i.e., to finally capture an elusive victory.
Martin explained, "Neil [Tuxworth] has been talking to me for a while about joining the team, but I had a lot of thinking to do before I committed and said yes. I spent a lot of time on my push bike to and from work, thinking about what to do.
"I didn't want to grow old regretting not giving the Honda a go, and the more time passes since making the decision, the more time I've thought it is the right decision.
"Honda is a great team and the Fireblade has always been a weapon on the roads, so with the new bike, I'm keen to give it a go. We've got a busy testing schedule coming up and I've put some other stuff off to make time.
"John McGuinness is the man, I've got massive respect for him and I'm looking forward to racing on the Fireblade against him."
Martin will ride Superstock and Superbike race machines of Honda at the TT and is also participating at the North West 200, Southern 100 and Ulster Grand Prix, where he sustained an injury to his back in August 2015.
After the career-threatening injury, Martin went on to do some world record attempts and in some, he succeeded. He is also a well-known TV presenter and a truck mechanic.
The daredevil from Lincolnshire made his TT debut in 2004, will have to compete in six events prior to the TT in order to get the license. However, Martin is no stranger to Honda machinery as he has previously ridden for the Hydrex Honda team and Wilson Craig Racing.
Legendary rider and Martin's new team-mate John McGuinness stated, "I'm excited to have Guy as my new team-mate; we've enjoyed many a racing battle over the years and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can both do."
