Kawasaki Plans For A Four-Cylinder 250cc Motorcycle — A New Ninja?
Kawasaki could be working on a 250cc, four-cylinder motorcycle to take down competition like the Honda CBR250RR.
The Kawasaki Ninja 250 (sold as the Ninja 300 in India) held the crown for being the fastest 250cc motorcycle decades ago but has lost it since. Now, according to reports, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is working on a four-cylinder 250cc motor.
It's not the first time, though, as Kawasaki once made the famous ZXR250, powered by a 249cc, transverse four-cylinder four-stroke liquid-cooled engine. The motorcycle was limited to 45bhp during the 80s and 90s. Now, Kawasaki is planning to bring out a new Ninja 250.
With modern day technology such as ride-by-wire and fuel injection, Kawasaki could very well develop a similarly powered motorcycle. The engine set up will make Kawasaki the only manufacturer to offer such a motorcycle in recent times, placing the company out of competitor's reach.
A four-cylinder quarter-litre motorcycle will wipe away the competition, like the Honda CBR250RR, which uses a twin-cylinder engine that produces 31.bhp. The Honda at the moment the fastest quarter-litre motorcycle sold.
Currently, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 is sold in India, and although the motorcycle performs good, pricing has put the motorcycle out of reach for an average customer. Also, KTM's pricing and performance has caught the attention of enthusiasts, like the new RC 390 pictured in the gallery below.
