Dakar 2017: CS Santosh And Stage 9 Updates
The stage nine of the 2017 Dakar Rally was canceled because of the heavy landslide on the liaison of the eighth stage.
The 2017 Dakar Rally has been badly hit by bad weather conditions. This time it was not rain but the aftermath of the heavy rainfall caused havoc. The stage nine Salta „- Chilecito was a massive 977km test with 406km of timed section. But the stage was canceled because of a landslide on the liaison of the eighth stage.
Due to the landslide, the assistant crews and competitors were forced to take a 330km detour to reach bivouac in Salta, way behind schedule. This caused the Dakar organisers to cancel the ninth stage.
Hero Motorsports Team Rally rider CS Santosh endured the treacherous conditions on the eighth stage and is in 63rd position in the overall ranking. His teammate Joaquim Rodrigues is in 10th position in the overall standings and is set for a top ten finish in his maiden Dakar Rally.
KTM rider Sam Sunderland is the rally leader in the motorcycle category. He is 20 minutes clear of Husqvarna rider Pablo Quintanilla. Yamaha rider Adrien Van Beveren is in third overall.
In the quads category, Russian rider Sergey Karyakin leads the rally in his Yamaha quad by a narrow margin ahead of Axel Dutrie and Ignacio Casale.
In the cars category, nine-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb holds the overall lead by a whisker ahead of his teammates Stephane Peterhansel and Cyril Despres.
In the trucks category, the Russian trio of Dmitry Sotnikov, Ruslan Akhmadeev and Igor Leonov leads the rally in their Kamaz truck. Eduard Nikolaev and Gerard De Rooy are also pushing hard for the rally lead.
