Francesco Bagnaia will be teaming up with the VR46 Team once again. This time around he will be joining their Moto2 project. Bagnaia is part of Valentino Rossi's development program called 'VR46 Riders Academy'.

The VR46 Team has confirmed that they will field two bikes in Moto3 and Moto2 respectively. So far, no announcement regarding Francesco's teammate has been made. The team has still to confirm which chassis it will be using as well in Moto2 Championship.

Currently, Francesco Bagnaia rides for Team Aspar Mahindra. Bagnaia was the first rider to deliver Mahindra its maiden Moto3 victory. In the 2016 Moto3 Championship, Francesco Bagnaia is fourth overall and has secured four podiums so far.

The Moto2 Championship utilises a common sourced engine, in the form of Honda's CBR600RR engine. Teams are allowed to tweak and develop the chassis and aerodynamics.
