Lorenzo & Marquez Fight Each Other In Italy; Rossi Retires
The Italian GP is an iconic venue for most MotoGP riders in the current paddock. Mugello is Valentino Rossi's home track and he brings a special helmet and a rejuvenated attitude. Rossi set the pole position in an unbeatable and determined fastest lap around Mugello.
Valentino Rossi seemed to have the pace to win his home race. At turn one Jorge Lorenzo took over the lead and began a fight with Rossi who kept fighting at every corner. Unfortunately, Valentino Rossi's YZR-M1 engine gave way and his Mugello win went up in smokes.
Marc Marquez sensed an opportunity to close up to Lorenzo and even win the Italian GP. An enthralling last ten lap began with the gap between Lorenzo and Marquez reducing. The Honda rider was planning his attack and measuring up his compatriot.
It was a last lap fight between Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez that showed the aggression between both riders. Surprisingly, this time, it was Lorenzo's experience that paid off, over Marquez's pace and determination.
Lorenzo crossed the finish line just 0.019 seconds ahead of Championship rival, Marc Marquez. The sad part is that instead of a two ride battle, MotoGP fans could have witnessed a three-way fight between Rossi, Lorenzo, and Marquez. Honda rider Marquez is now ten points behind of Lorenzo while Rossi is adrift by 37 points.
