Kawasaki Estrella Could Compete With Royal Enfield In India
Kawasaki Motors India has imported the Estrella motorcycle to Indian shores. The Estrella by Kawasaki is most likely to be launched in India to compete with the likes of Royal Enfield. Currently, the Japanese-based manufacturer is using the model for R&D reasons.
Powering the Kawasaki Estrella is a 249cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox and will produce 17.16bhp, along with 18Nm of peak torque output. Estrella by Kawasaki will take on the likes of Royal Enfield's 350cc range.
Both front and rear wheel of Estrella will get disc brakes for efficient braking. The bike will ride on telescopic front forks while the rear-end gets traditional twin coil spring shock absorbers. The overall design of the Kawasaki Estrella will be retro/classic and will provide a nostalgic feel.
In order to be competitive Kawasaki will try to locally assemble the Estrella. They will make use of Bajaj Auto's Chakan facility in Pune for local assembly. Only with CKD units will Kawasaki be able to compete with the likes of Royal Enfield in the Indian market.
Kawasaki Motors is exploring the 250-300cc market in India. The Japanese-based manufacturer plans on launching several new and interesting products in the country very soon. Z250SL is most likely to be introduced in India next.
