Dakar 2016: CS Santosh & Stage 3 Updates
The third stage of the 2016 Dakar Rally has concluded, with CS Santosh crossing the stage in the 61st position. His overall standings after stage 3 is 79.
Stage 3 of the Dakar Rally was shortened from the original 664km to 626km due to bad weather, with a 190km special stage.
In the motorcycle category, Joan Barreda took the stage win, but was penalised by a whole minute, making him lose the stage lead. Stage three victory went to Argentinian rider Kevin Benavides, who gave Joan Barreda a run for his money.
Stage 2 leader Toby Price had difficulties along the route with spectators and animals getting in his way so the Australian decided to keep the pace slow. Joan Barreda took the lead by Check Point 1 and maintained the lead till the finish.
In the quad category, Brian Baragwanath won stage 3, after almost losing the lead to Ignacio Casale mid-stage.
The Car category is dominated by World rally Champion Sebastien Loeb. Being his first Dakar, Loeb has already managed to take two stage wins so far. Loeb was followed by team mate Carlos Sainz and Dakar 2015 winner Nasser Al-Attiyah in third.
In the Truck category, the winner of stage 3 was Martin Kolomy, which is also his first Dakar stage win.
