By Ajinkya

Yamaha launched the YZF-R3 sportbike in India during August 2015. Now the superbike has won the prestigious India Motorcycle Of The Year during 2016. The other top contenders for the award were Honda's CBR650F and DSK Benelli's TNT 300 model.

The parameters for the award were based on design, price, comfort, safety, technical innovation and various other factors. The jury consisted of various dignitaries from the automobile industry including several automobile journalists.

Yamaha offers the YZF-R3 motorcycle in the Indian market as a Completely Knocked Down unit. The full-faired sportbike is priced at Rs. 3.25 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). Unfortunately, Yamaha does not offer the YZF-R3 with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) even as an option.

Powering the YZF-R3 is a 321cc, inline two-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Yamaha has mated the engine to a 6-speed gearbox. The engine produces 41.43bhp, along with 29.6Nm of peak torque output and is expected to hit top speeds in excess of 150km/h.

Recently, Yamaha organised a special treat for their YZF-R3 owners in India. 30 randomly selected YZF-R3 owners were given a chance to ride on the Buddh International Circuit. That was not all, also present on track with them was 2015 MotoGP Champion, Jorge Lorenzo.
