World Superbike Championship Coming To India During 2017
Motorsport is slowly yet steadily gaining popularity in India, currently we have only one international race track to take care of all our racing needs in Greater Noida.
Buddh International Circuit has hosted three editions of Formula One successfully. Previously World Superbike Championship was also scheduled to host an Indian round.
Certain complications and miscommunication resulted in India missing out this opportunity. Now WSBK will make its debut in India during their 2017 championship year.
Motorsports has finally been recognised as a sport by Indian authorities. Previously it was labelled as a form of entertainment and was burdened with huge sums of taxes on the participants.
Dorna Sports currently handles both WSBK and MotoGP championships, both are considered as top level two-wheeler competitions. Buddh International Circuit would like to host several other motorsport events, however tax issues are keeping several of them away.
Formula One also has a contract to host two more races at Buddh International Circuit. This is only possible if several of the custom duties and tax structures are relaxed for the event.
